Instructor Bio - Constance Colthorp

My focus in education and lifelong learning is to help individuals use Internet tools to develop new skills and become community leaders. I also wish to help existing leaders further their nonprofit, educational, personal or service goals and provide a resource for those wishing to build new skills and enhance their careers. Through the use of Internet technologies we can leverage the powerful aspects of tools that help build community, connecting people to organizations and information. Whether you are changing professions, building a nonprofit organization, or looking for a venue to present what is meaningful to you, these courses offer a resource for gaining the skills you need to realize your goals.

My background is varied in librarianship and digital preservation, community building, public interest, educational technology, project management, and web production. I work full time as a Project Manager at Enlighten, an award-winning interactive services company, where I've been since May of 2000. At Enlighten, I have managed interactive projects for clients ranging from Food Network/Fine Living to the historic Michigan Theater, along with Kao Brands, Ford Media Relations, Sony Digital Entertainment, HBO, Reebok, and ProQuest.

I earned a Bachelor of Arts in History from Albion College. After working on community campaigns to enact good environmental policy, I lived and worked in Detroit for seven years. During that time I volunteered in numerous community groups, including tutoring at the Detroit Public Library and teaching technologies. I worked as Web Producer at the Chrysler Technology Center and later moved to Ann Arbor to attend the School of Information at the University of Michigan where I earned my Master of Science in Information. There I was awarded a graduate research assistantship at the Knowledge Navigation Center, serving as an academic technology consultant for the university community, teaching the use of digital tools to help communicate information and conduct research. I have taught Internet-related courses at Washtenaw Community College since 1999.

I live with my husband, Jamey Amrine, and our son and daughter (Jed and Molly) in Ann Arbor, Michigan.
